What time does Kennedy start and finish?

Kennedy’s school days begin at 8:50AM and end at 2:50PM. The day is divided into 4 periods with lunch in between.

Early Morning : 7:30 am - 8:45 am

Period 1  :  8:50 am – 10:10 am

Period 2  :  10:15 am – 11:30 am

Lunch     :  11:30 am – 12:10 pm

Period 3  :  12:10 pm – 1:30 pm

Period 4  :  1:30 pm – 2:50 pm

 

What is a period? What is a semester?

At Kennedy, our school year is divided into two semesters.

Semester 1: September – January
Semester 2: February – June

During each semester, you will take 4 courses, one during each of the 4 periods.

 

Where do I eat lunch?

Kennedy has a cafeteria where you can eat lunch. You can bring your own lunch or leave school to buy food from around the area.

 

What subjects will I take in Grade 9?

In grade 9, you have 6 mandatory courses out of a total of 8. These include: Math, English, French, Health and Physical Education, Geography, and Science. The two remaining courses are optional courses, so you will get to choose what they are.  **All mandatory courses will be de-streamed for grade 9**

 

What is de-streaming? 

All studentswill take the exact courses regardless of ability.  All students will take:

ENL1W - de-streamed English                            

CGC1D - academic Geography

FSF1D - academic French

SNC1W - de-streamed Science

MTH1W - de-streamed Math                               

PPL1O - open Physical Education

What optional courses can I take?

Kennedy offers the following options in Grade 9:

How do I sign up for courses?

Starting in February, you will have access to Kennedy’s course selection forms found in myBlueprint.  Once you have filled out the forms, they will be submitted to Kennedy.  Ask guidance counsellors for help , if needed.

 

Will I have exams in high school?

Yes, most of your high school subjects will have an exam and/or a final project at the end. It is meant to see how much you have learned throughout the course.

 

How can I do well in high school?

High school is a big change and will take some adjustments. The best things to do are to stay healthy, attend class everyday and on time, stay on top of your notes and homework, and keep in mind the teachers and staff you can reach out to for help.  

 

What is a good way to make new friends?

In high school, you will be surrounded by old and new friends. A great way to meet your fellow Clippers is to attend school events and participate in extracurricular activities. It is a wonderful opportunity to find people who share your interests.

 

I want to participate in sports and clubs in high school. What kinds do you have and how do I sign up?

You can find out more by attending our Grade 8 Night Open House where we talk about the extracurriculars offered at Kennedy. You will be able to sign up once you are a student here – just listen for our daily announcements and advertisements around the school! Some examples of what we have to offer are: band, student council, basketball, volleyball, and yearbook.

 

How can I find out more about Kennedy?

Attending our Grade 8 Night Open House on January 11, 2023 from 6PM – 8 PM has been the best start.  Ask questions to our department heads or other teachers in attendance.  Find their emails in the "Contact Us" section.
